Plumbing problems in Lebanon
Lebanon is the county seat of Lebanon County, about ten miles east of Palmyra on US 422. Not to be confused with Lebanon in other states, this is the Lebanon Valley city known for its bologna, with the Quittapahilla Creek flowing west through town. Much of the housing in the city is old, a lot of it built before 1940, and many homes are rented.
Old city houses bring old-house plumbing: sewer laterals that have settled or filled with roots, cast-iron stacks inside walls, and supply lines that have been patched more than once. In a building with more than one unit, a backup in one apartment can come from a line shared with the neighbors, so tell the provider how many units share the plumbing.
Tenants should report leaks to the landlord in writing and close the valve under the fixture if water is running. Landlords should ask for a written estimate on anything beyond the first repair and make sure every unit has a working shutoff. Outside the city, in the surrounding townships, some homes are on private wells; if yours is and you lose water, check the breaker for the well pump before you call.
